Who I am
I am a PoC cis queer woman with lived experience in a larger body, and sensory eating differences.
As a mental health therapist, I focus on supporting you in navigating challenges related to identity, disability, and major life transitions. I am passionate about working with marginalized communities, including LGBTQ+ individuals, those with disabilities, and individuals experiencing cultural dislocation. I aim to support those seeking a therapist who understands the complex intersections of identity and their impact on mental health. Whether you are exploring self-acceptance, managing the unique stressors of living with a disability or finding your voice in an often overwhelming world, I am here to offer guidance and support. My commitment is to help you build self-understanding and compassion, coping skills while also embracing your true self and moving towards a more fulfilling life.
My approach is client-centred, rooted in empathy, collaboration, and mutual respect. I tailor therapy to your unique needs, helping you uncover your strengths and achieve your personal goals. I'm committed to creating a safe, inclusive space where you feel understood and empowered while maintaining a strong awareness of how systemic factors can impact your mental health. I strive to be culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and queer and trans-affirming.
I use a multicultural and eclectic approach that incorporates CBT-informed techniques, mindfulness, narrative therapy, internal family systems (IFS), and solution-focused therapy to best fit your needs. I strive to be culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and adaptable, ensuring that the therapeutic process meets the unique and evolving needs of each individual. This flexibility allows for a personalized and responsive experience.
My career path has been a rich tapestry of experiences that have shaped my approach to psychotherapy. One of the most formative experiences was living abroad in Japan for a year on a working holiday visa, where I gained invaluable insights into cross-cultural communication and the importance of cultural sensitivity in therapy. This experience deepened my understanding of how cultural context influences identity, mental health, and the therapeutic process. Upon returning from Japan, I continued to pursue my passion for helping others, eventually finding my calling in psychotherapy. Over the years, I have worked with diverse populations, each bringing unique challenges and opportunities for growth. My journey has been one of continuous learning and development, driven by a deep-seated desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others.
I enjoy spending time with my two cats Rex and Toby, creating art, and immersing myself in urban fantasy novels. I’m passionate about staying up-to-date with the latest tech advances, building PCs, gaming, and watching anime. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I love dressing up to greet (and occasionally scare) trick-or-treaters. I’m also an avid traveler, having visited the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Latvia, Taiwan, and Japan, where I spent a transformative year on a working holiday visa. My experiences abroad and my love for exploration continue to shape my perspective and approach to life and therapy.
